Josh HawkinsandGitHub b55723146d Don't run config ffmpeg as root (#24891)
* don't run a config ffmpeg.path as root at boot

The frigate and go2rtc run scripts probed "$ffmpeg_path" -version as root before dropping privileges, and resolve_ffmpeg_path only refused runtime-user-writable paths when frigate itself was a root service. In the default mode uid 1000 could set ffmpeg.path to a /config directory, plant bin/ffmpeg there, and get root on the next restart, and under FRIGATE_ROOT_SERVICES=go2rtc a root go2rtc used that path as its ffmpeg bin. The probe now runs as the service user whenever the service drops privileges, and resolve_ffmpeg_path refuses writable paths for whichever service will run the binary, returning the resolved path so a symlink can't be retargeted after the check. go2rtc falls back to the bundled build's libavformat version if its user can't run the custom build.

* resolve the full ffmpeg path under granular root

Frigate NVR™ - Realtime Object Detection for IP Cameras

License: MIT

[English] | 简体中文

A complete and local NVR designed for Home Assistant with AI object detection. Uses OpenCV and Tensorflow to perform realtime object detection locally for IP cameras.

Use of a GPU or AI accelerator is highly recommended. AI accelerators will outperform even the best CPUs with very little overhead. See Frigate's supported object detectors.

  • Tight integration with Home Assistant via a custom component
  • Designed to minimize resource use and maximize performance by only looking for objects when and where it is necessary
  • Leverages multiprocessing heavily with an emphasis on realtime over processing every frame
  • Uses a very low overhead motion detection to determine where to run object detection
  • Object detection with TensorFlow runs in separate processes for maximum FPS
  • Communicates over MQTT for easy integration into other systems
  • Records video with retention settings based on detected objects
  • 24/7 recording
  • Re-streaming via RTSP to reduce the number of connections to your camera
  • WebRTC & MSE support for low-latency live view
